What Is The Secondary AP?
Learn here about the secondary AP and how to accomplish the extension of the Radio Coverage Area. Use of secondary access point in mode with non-overlapping channels, can make your radio coverage much larger. You can use this method only if you can connect this secondary access point to the backbone - wired part of the network. The disadvantage of this method is that the wired network has to be reachable to the second access point. The advantage of this method is, it is very easy to implement. It does not require much of a configuration. Only the basic configuration on second access point is needed. If you have two access points – one primary and one secondary, use the non-overlapping channels. If you use two close overlapping channels, interference could occur. This leads to poor connectivity and lower bandwidth. Make sure to have just the right distance between two access points. If they are too close, you can have congestion, and radio coverage area will be smaller. The most important thing in the big wireless LAN networks is to assign the right channels on the access points. This will minimize the overlap of signals. Access points within a range need to be configured with non-overlapping channels (i.e., 1, 6 and 11). Wireless repeater or range extender is access point or WiFi router which doesn’t have access to the backbone or to the internet. This device is using wireless connection to establish connection to the rest of the network. More about this you could read on Wireless Repeater.
