WEP Key Find In Less Than A Minute

Read here about the WEP key find instructions. Can you believe that a WEP was cracked in less than a 60 seconds? If you choose WEP as security, it is not the safest way to protect your wireless network.

More about WEP you can find on page …

If you have enough time and the right tool, to find a WEP key is a piece of cake. You just need to collect enough information – packets from the same network. The more packets you gather, the better is your chance to find WEP key.

The more packets you need, the more time you will have to spend to collect them. First 4 to 6 million packets were needed for cracking WEP. Better crack techniques decrease the number of packets to 500 thousand to 2 million.

Researchers at the Darmstadt University of Technology in Darmstadt, Germany have the now reduced number of packets to 60 thousand for 80% success. They need 85 thousand of packets for 95% success. They have used a tool called aircrack-ptw - you can download here. Document about this procedure and their explanation, you can download here.

So, if you are using WEP, as your only security measure, it is a time for new security procedures. There are still many wireless products in the market that have only WEP as a security. Requirements to be Wi-Fi certified product, is to support WPA encryption.

My recommendation for you is to check WEP vs WPA. There you can find all disadvantages of WEP and reasons why to use WPA.

WPA was launched by Wi-Fi Alliance in October 2003. The WPA or Wi-FI Protected Access has the answers to all the weaknesses of the WEP. There is WPA and WPA2 and both have two certification modes Personal and Enterprise. For Enterprise mode you need a Radius server. More about the WPA you can read in what is WPA.
