Wireless IP Telephony - VoWLAN

What about Wireless IP Telephony - VoWLAN (Voice over WLAN)? I guess you have a big question mark after that question. Telephony is very sensitive to lack of the bandwidth, delay, and jitter - delay variation. If you put telephony on IP, you get VoIP - Voice over IP.

IP is the best effort technology that is not reliable by itself. After that, you put all this on wireless networks. The Wireless medium is very sensible on bandwidth, obstacles and it has doubtful reliability.

When you put all this on paper, it does not seem like a good combination at all. Despite all these, this technology works amazingly well. Experts and analyst in the ICT industry have widely accepted and acknowledged wireless IP networks as a desirable medium for VoWLAN.

The following requirements are needed for successful implementation of VoWLAN:

1) Demanding network architecture.

2) RF and site survey requirements.

3) Carefully prepared Security.

4) WLAN roaming.

5) Quality of Service - QoS.

Wireless IP telephony starts to be quite popular, because it converges other ways of communication like emails, calendars, chats. Business people can from one single device with internet access can make calls, check emails, chats with his friends and colleagues and make appointments in his calendar.

This technology can be very useful for your business. It gives you a great possibility that you can run your business not only in your office, but everywhere you go. Allows your business to run more efficiently and even expand.

VoWLAN technology allows different ways of communication to be totally integrated with enabling voice, data and video to be transferred over the same infrastructure or wireless network that uses WLAN standards. With proper hardware and software products you could optimize all these different features and functionalities, and provide interoperability between a wide range of applications. All five requirements (network architecture, RF site survey requirements, proper security, WiFi roaming and quality of service) need to be addressed to provide optimal functioning of this technology.
